“People say they will help but nothing comes of it but you have helped more than you can imagine. So from me, thank you and have a lovely day knowing what good you have done.”
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far to get us to our £15,000 target! For the last week of the appeal, we've increased the target to £20,000 so that we can help even more people across Edinburgh.
Could you do good with food this winter and make someone's year?
At Empty Kitchens Full Hearts, we relieve poverty in Edinburgh by turning surplus food into meals delivered free of charge and supporting access to other welfare support services. We are currently supporting around 650 people across the city.
Everyone deserves to know where their next meal is coming from. Your donation will make that a reality for your community across Edinburgh.
Since April 2020 a community of more than 300 volunteers has cooked, packed, and delivered more than 1.9 million meals to people experiencing poverty across the city. By Christmas, we expect to have made 2 million meals.
Our meals are delivered to people facing physical and mental health challenges, unemployment, homelessness, and people feeling the impact of the ever-present cost of living crisis finding their income is simply no longer enough to make ends meet. More than a year into the cost of living crisis, food prices are still 10% higher than they were this time last year.
It costs us £3 to cook, prepare, and deliver meals and provide follow-up welfare support for one person for one day.
Every penny counts and directly supports our service users. A regular donation provides long-term, on-going support for everyone we support. If you can, please consider choosing to give on a monthly basis.
"I cannot thank you enough for the beautiful meals you have delivered each day, they literally kept me healthy plus the wonderful delivery people who brighten my day. There is a new chapter in my life now and I'll be out of the poverty trap very soon."
Thank you so much for your support, and for doing good with food this winter.
